Announcing the New Canon EOS R Full Frame Mirrorless System

Just two weeks after Nikon introduced its Z-system, Canon has joined the full-frame mirrorless club with the first in its new RF-mount system. We’ve highlighted some of the features you’ll find on the EOS R once it’s released. You’re going to want to get your hands on this camera!

New RF Mount With the new EOS R comes the new RF lens system with 3 different mount adapters.  The new lenses boast the new Control Ring. This allows for changing aperture, ISO or exposure composition, to name a few. The newly designed RF mount is designed for full, uninhibited compatibility with all your existing EF, EF-S, TS-E and MP-E lenses through the use of mount adapters. The RF mount features a 54mm inner diameter, the same as Canon’s EF mount, but it has a shorter flange focal distance of 20mm that allows lenses to be simpler and optically superior. There is also the Drop-In Filter lens mount which allows you to add unique effects that improve your shots by dropping in filters such as variable neutral density, circular polarizing or clear.

Rear Screen There is a fully articulated touchscreen that can not only tilt but it can swivel around to allow the person in front of the camera to see what the camera is seeing. This makes it great for taking selfies or vlogging. Other features include Touch and Drag focusing and Focus Peaking real-time display.  The touch focus screen is a huge benefit on this camera and has been designed in a way that you can program certain sides of the screen to respond to touch to avoid your nose bumping into it and messing with your focus points. Silent Shutter Silent shooting in single-shot mode will allow you to be discreet while working. Making it the perfect camera for photographing everything from weddings to golf matches. This feature will be available for continuous shooting in the future after an upcoming firmware update. Multi-Function Bar Canon has found a way to eliminate searching for buttons and knobs while shooting. They’ve introduced a new Multi-Function Bar on the back of the EOS R by the viewfinder. This touch bar allows you to quickly access customizable settings. You can touch one side or the other, press the entire bar at its center, or swipe from left to right or right to left. In this way. The bar can be used to set a range of functions during shooting, ranging from ISO sensitivity to display info. In playback mode it can be used as a function shortcut. It can also be used to 'jump' between ranges of images in a sequence. Video Capability The Canon EOS R can of course shoot video as well as stills. You can record your child’s football games this fall with 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps. Autofocus The camera can focus in as little as 0.05 seconds with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, making it the fastest autofocus speed in the world. These AF features provide photographers and videographers with Canon’s most advanced AF system to date. This new EOS R from Canon will allow you to produce more creative visual images that have never been possible before.
